Early SF 4 Rollback Mod Spreads Around Twitter Esports.net

The Street Fighter franchise has been one of the defining series for the genre. Street Fighter is one of the best examples of the fighting genre. Always pushing the boundaries with new releases. Old games in the series are still worth checking in on though. That’s especially as the community around the games expand them. This week we’ve seen a big improvement released, although a bit too early to be working as intended, with the Street Fighter 4 rollback netcode mod.

One of the most well-remembered fighting games of all time is Street Fighter 4. The game is older though. There are certain aspects where it’s just always going to lag behind and show its age. Often, the modding community steps in here. This recent addition to Street Fighter 4 is a particularly exciting mod. Fans are ensuring players can experience online in an older game in the same quality you’d expect from a brand-new release, at least once the mod is finally completed. How does the SF 4 rollback mod work and why has it been released early?

Street Fighter 4 Rollback Mod Released

A user on Twitter this week teased a particularly interesting fighting game mod. Senor_Power posted a link to a Google doc, inside was a process on how to install a Street Fighter 4 mod. Those who went through all over the instructions found that the mod was trying to implement modern rollback netcode, although, it clearly wasn’t finished yet.

In the time since this mod spread around, we’ve gotten a fuller idea of what happened. The person who created the document that was shared is not the same person creating the mod. It wasn’t supposed to be released in this as-of-yet unfinished state. The traces of the mod have been removed for now, but we know some players are working on adding this impressive new feature to an older game.

Titles like Smash Bros Melee have similarly had modern online mods released, and then removed. If the Street Fighter 4 Rollback mod is finished in the future, this title will definitely expand its options for playing Street Fighter 4. Hopefully, it can be finished and in a working state before it is shared again.
