The Paramount+ streaming service Feb. 22 announced that its “Frasier” revival has been renewed for a second season.

The series follows the life of Dr. Frasier Crane, played by Kelsey Grammer, who originated the character during the third season of “Cheers” in 1984 and will thus mark the 40th anniversary of his debut in the role. Presented as a psychologist and patron of the title bar in Boston for the rest of the show’s run, the character eventually became the focus of his own series, the original “Frasier,” which ran on NBC from 1993 to 2004. In it, the doctor returns to his hometown of Seattle to host a call-in radio show.

The new “Frasier,” which debuted its 10-episode first season in October 2023, finds the character returning to Boston to take a teaching position at Harvard and reconnect with his son, Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott), a firefighter.

Produced by CBS Studios, season two of “Frasier” will continue to film in front of a live studio audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles.

“’Frasier’ is a love story, and I am very happy we will be allowed to continue it,” said Grammer, who also executive produces the series. “I’m delighted that our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ are on board for another season, and I can’t wait for the fans to see what we have in store!”

The show’s cast also includes Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan, Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor; Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, head of the university’s psychology department; Jess Salgueiro as Eve, a bartender and Freddy’s roommate; and Anders Keith as David, Frasier’s nephew. Season one, which is available now on Paramount+, featured guest appearances from original series castmembers Bebe Neuwirth and Peri Gilpin.
