Warner’s ‘Dune: Part Two’ Eyes First Box Office Blockbuster Debut of 2024 Media Play News

After a meddling start, the 2024 box office is looking at its first major performer: Warner Bros. Pictures’ sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Two, featuring much of the original 2021 cast of the led by Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya.

The movie, directed by Denis Villeneuve, is projected to generate upwards of $80 million across North American screens through March 3, according to new data from Box Office Mojo. The original sold more than $41 million in opening weekend tickets during the pandemic-impacted era.

Part Two, which saw more than $18 million in advanced ticket sales, could top $120 million in revenue worldwide.

At No. 2 is the previous two weekend’s No. 1, Paramount Pictures’ biopic Bob Marley: One Love, which has reached $124 million in global ticket sales since its Feb. 14 debut. The movie is projected to see another $7.9 million in ticket sales this weekend.

Rounding out the podium is Fathom Events faith-based series “The Chosen: Season 4 Episodes 7 – 8,” with $4 million projected revenue.

Lionsgate/Kingdom Story Company’s Ordinary Angels, starring Oscar winner Hilary Swank (Boys Don’t Cry, Million Dollar Baby) and Alan Ritchson (“Reacher”), is at No. 4 with an estimated $3.1 million in ticket sales.

Columbia Pictures’ Madame Web ($2.6 million), Universal Pictures’ Migration ($2.1 million), Crunchyroll’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Hashira Training, Warner’s Wonka ($1.7 million), MGM Studios’ The Beekeeper ($1.2 million) and Universal’s Argylle ($1.1 million) round out the weekend box office.
